Kona Ironman 2008 highlights

Competition

Scott athletes had an amazing Ironman this year, including a top-5 finish and an overall fastest bike split aboard the new Plasma2. Thirtytwo year-old Estonian Ain Alar Juhanson threw down the fastest bike spilt of the day, coming off the bike in 5th place having rallied from 16th. His time was 4:26:14, not quite record but given the strong winds, was the best ride of the day.  “I looked at my computer and I wasn’t over doing it at all on the bike leg, so I kept pushing,” remarked Juhanson. Ain finished 13th on the day.

Also in the men’s race was 2-time champion Normann Stadler, who finished 12th overall. Normann is a tremendous competitor and he hammered on the bike with the 3rd fastest ride of the day. He temporarily led the race on the run until cramping slowed him down midway through the run.


Linsey Corbin

On the women’s side, the top American finisher and 5th overall was Linsey Corbin, who pulled off her best Ironman WC yet aboard the new Contessa Plasma. “I am just so comfortable on the new bike, and being here in Kona for three weeks training did not hurt either,” said Corbin.

The competition for "most raced bike" was also interesting for SCOTT Bicycles, who climbed comfortably into 3rd position. Every year the momentum grows with the Plasma and more competitors decide to go with the fastest growing brand in Kona.

T3 Lounge and party

The T3 Lounge was cranking on race day with plenty of spectators dropping by to chill out and watch the race on the big screen. Guests were welcomed with breakfast in the morning and pizza all afternoon. At 6pm the party really ramped up with the legendary Scott Tinley leading the band. Spectators had the best seat in the house as the lounge was situated only a couple blocks from the transition area and on Alii drive where the race ends. It was great to cheer on the finishers until midnight while the party was happening.
