The AMA Pro Motocross series rolled into Budds Creek, Maryland, located just outside our nation’s capital, with SCOTT Athlete Chad Reed poised to wrap up the championship. Maryland is known for its summertime humidity and violent thunderstorms and with severe weather in the forecast, anything could happen.
In Moto 1, Chad Reed got a less than stellar start and was well outside the top 10. In usual Reedy fashion, he began picking guys off until a small mistake took him off the track. Reed fought back through the field, eventually getting into second place nearly 20 seconds behind the leader Davi Millsaps. When the white flag flew, Reed was only 5 seconds behind and finished a few tenths of a second behind Millsaps. The only rider who could keep Reed from securing the championship was SCOTT Athlete Andrew Short. Short was forced to settle for a disappointing 7th, allowing Reed to gain valuable championship points. SCOTT Athlete Tim Ferry was back for the second straight weekend but also struggled with a slow start and managed a 9th place Moto 1 finish.
In Moto 2, the skies began to open up. All the SCOTT athletes were equipped with Works Film System Goggles which are used for extreme mud and rain riding. Reed finally got a great start, took the lead and checked out. SCOTT Apparel/Goggle rider Tommy Hahn returned to form and fought his way to a 2nd place finish. Timmy Ferry rode to a solid 8th place finish while Short finished 10th. Chad Reed's 2-1 finish won him the overall at Budds Creek. Although Short fought hard, he was unable to keep Chad from clinching his 1st AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Congratulations Chad!

Tommy Hahn's 2nd place finish in Moto 2 gave him 5th place in the overall.

In Moto 1, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/SCOTT teammates Jake Weimer and Christophe Pourcel grabbed the start. After a few laps, Pourcel moved into the lead and kept a comfortable and consistent lead throughout the Moto. Christophe took the win with Weimer finishing second.
Moto 2 was a totally different story. The rain was coming down in buckets and the track was submerged in water and mud. After an unusual start mishap and redflag, the riders returned to the gate for a second start. Jake Weimer battled with Metcalfe for most of the moto with Pourcel following in a close 3rd. Weimer would eventually take the lead just before race officials were forced to call the race early when the race was called due to lightning. Moto 2 finished Weimer, Metcalfe, Pourcel. By virtue of beating his championship rival Ryan Dungey in both motos, Pourcel now leads the title chase by 13 points with two rounds left to run.
