Muddy work for Scott Swisspower at Bromont

The Canadian world cups are by far the most technical courses on the world cup tour. If you ad heavy rainfall to the already tough conditions the racing becomes sever. The brakes don’t last for the whole duration of the race. Only a not too aggressive riding style will get you to the finish.
After a fast start of Ralph Näf, local hero Geoff Kabush and Julien Absalon were battling for the victory. It looked great for SCOTT-Swisspower for the first two-third of the race. Florian and Nino were riding with Näf for 3rd place until things changed dramatically. While Absalon dropped back with a broken chain, all riders slowed down due to brake issues. Not so Jose Antonio Hermida. In the last two laps he moved up from 7th to 2nd place. Kabush made a Canadian dream come true, winning a world cup race in his home country.
Nino was left with no brakes at all. On steeper descents where he usually makes up time, he lost seconds running down hill. He stated: “I had to brake with my feet even on smaller descents, one time only a jump towards a tree slowed me down. It was sever!!” At the end he finished in 6th, which he was not happy with. He knows he could be placed better.

Florian was facing brake problems too, just not as bad as Nino. All he wanted was riding home a good result. He’s strategy of riding as save as possible was the way to go. Without the full brake power the risk of crashing or getting a flat tire is getting much higher. It paid off with a superb 4th place, which not only got him on the world cup podium the first time this year, he moved back into top ten in the overall.

Behind Kanadian Kabush and Spanish Hermida we saw four Swiss guys in the top 6. Seems like the Swiss have a good training environment for this kind of races.
