Great Package For a Low Price

THE BASICS
When we built up the Speedster S60 we were blown away by the aggressive and sleek lines of the oversized tubing on the bike. Throw in the Addict carbon fork up front, and the silver (anthracite) paint job, and we were looking forward to getting on the bike. The Speedster S60 comes in XXS-XXL sizes, fea¬tures hydroformed aluminum tubing, a SCOTT Road Pro saddle, and SCOTT Drop OS Anatomic 31.8 millimeter bars.

THE RIDE
We put the SCOTT Speedster S60 on our regular test loop and aside from some climbing fatigue (that was to be expected), the Speedster performed really well. Stable on descents, able and responsive out of the saddle and smooth on rolling ter¬rain, the Speedster seriously could stay with many bikes at a much higher price point. We like the Hutchinson Flash tires and had no trouble with the Shimano Sora ST2200 dual con¬trol 24-speed shifters. One testing day, the skies opened up and pelted us with rain, and the S60 hung in there and offered a confident ride.

THE VERDICT
If you rolled up on the Speedster S60, unless you were a buyer at a bike shop, no one would know you only spent $700 on the bike. As with the Trek 1.2, our first upgrade (which would dra¬matically drop the weight of the bike) would be higher-end wheels. Ride it as is for a year and then throw on some lighter wheels and off you go. If you are new to riding, on a budget, or looking for an around-town bike that can still get you through a moderate club ride, check out the Speedster S60.
