Tour de France: Horner fought till the end

In today´s stage, Chris Horner escaped with four other riders at km 17, and they managed to keep their wheels for virtually the whole race. With just a few kilometres to go, Chavanel split from the peloton, trying to jump away and reached the break. After 150 km, Horner was the only one to catch Chavanel, and both fought hard right to the end. After such a heroic fight, they were chased down by the sprinters 200 m before the finish line. Everybody believed Horner would get the win today, but in spite of the results, this has been a brilliant and brave bit of riding by Chris "Cracker Jack" Horner.
One question: why did Horner not get the “most combative” title at the end of this stage…?
Horner finished 10th and is currently in 28th place in the General Classification.
A few minutes after the race, Matxin said: “it is not the end of the world! Yesterday SAUNIER DUVAL PRODIR was good; today, Chris was really close to do it….So tomorrow will be our day!”
