Cameron Brown wins New Zealand Sprint Championships

Cameron Brown wins the New Zealand Sprint Championships

Scott triathlete Cameron Brown has won the New Zealand Sprint triathlon Championships. The race took place at Lake Karapiro, part of the Waikato River.
The 750m swim was an eye opener for Cameron, and he was off the back of the lead pack as soon as the gun went off, struggling with the sprint pace. He tried to settle into a rhythm but that never occured and he was behind by 20-25 seconds coming out of the water.
Once on the bike, Cameron quickly started making up the time he lost in the swim and went hard for the 20 km. It was a tough bike course with plenty of hills to break up the riders and for Cameron to try and put some time on the other athletes. He had a 20 second lead at the turn around at 10 km, which he extended to 35 seconds by the end of the bike leg.
The run course was very muddy so it was just like a winter cross country run, but Brown was able to keep track of the competitors chasing behind him over the five laps and managed to hold on for the win with a final time of 57:45, with second going to Will Smith in 58:26. Tristan Callwell was third with a time of 58:40.

Congratulations Cameron!
