A Grand Coup

Stage 13, Alessandria - La Thuile, 218K

It was a very good day for Olson and his Saunier Duval-Prodir Crew. Piepoli broke free, with Ivan Basso, to win on the Colle San Marco, while Gilberto Simoni put time into some of his major rivals and Aaron Olson once again proved his worth.

The day finally settled down when an escape of six went free. Olson rode with his crew at the front, staying clear of trouble and keeping Gibo safe. What amazed BiciRace.com was that Olson kept his pace and climbed with grace on San Marco. After the big guns played their cards, l'Americano continued to ride steady up the climb, looking great for the coming week.

Piepoli had the opportunity from Gibo and Pietro Algeri to try for a stage win. The Saunier Duval-Prodir rider, along with Basso, rode free over the San Carlo, while Simoni put in time on rivals like Savoldelli and Di Luca. Piepoli ditched the Maglia Rosa on the descent to La Thuile and gave the Squadra Gialla a huge boost in morale, which should be helpful for the tough stages still to come.

BiciRace.com made sure to give congratulations to Team Manager, Mauro Gianetti, after the stage... A grand coup!
