Bevo Forti's Motocross "Big Rig"
Bevo Forti, SCOTT USA's Motocross Pro Support man in the field, motocross legend in the pits, and general godfather figure of the motocross industry, did not use to travel in the "big rig" style you see him in today.
Bevo initially came to work for SCOTT USA in the early eighties when his pro support vehicle consisted of a 1978 Ford Van stuffed with Scott MX race goggles and accessories. By the end of the van's service, it had almost a million miles on it and had such a worn ignition, you could start the van with a screwdriver.
The retirement of the original SCOTT USA van and success of its race support program prompted SCOTT USA to purchase two new vans, stationing one on the West Coast and one on the East Coast. This scenario lasted for a couple years until Bevo received a full sized tour bus to be utilized when attending the events on the East Coast. It didn't take long for Bevo to start driving the bus to all major events on both coasts.
For a number of years Bevo utilized the bus as his support vehicle at National Outdoor Motocross Series and Supercross Events. Eventually, SCOTT USA management decided to purchase a "big rig" to truly serve SCOTT USA's sponsored professional racers.
Completely custom-manufactured inside and out, built on a semi-truck frame, and powered by a tractor cab, the SCOTT USA "Big Rig" is a sight to behold. In addition to the semi-truck and cab, there is a twenty-six foot trailer hitched behind it. The trailer serves a dual purpose of a mobile merchandise display and transport for the Suzuki Samurai Bevo uses to whisk him around the pits. The interior of the semi-truck, expanded at the races by three "push-outs", has all the amenities of a modern kitchen and living room. It provides a comfortable place for professional riders, their families, and industry personnel to enjoy SCOTT USA's hospitality.
Although the "Big Rig" has a lot of advantages over the vehicles Bevo used to drive in the "old days" of race support, one thing remains constant; SCOTT USA's unparalleled level of rider support. Next time you're in the pits, go over and have a look at the "Big Rig", and maybe, if you're lucky, you'll see a motocross legend.
