Amanda Lovato wins in West Virginia http://www.scottusa.com/us_en/news/bike/1407/amanda_lovato_wins_in_west_virginia Mon, 30 Jun 2008 12:59:31 -0600 Amanda Lovato made a return to the Med Express Spirit of Morgantown Half Iron intent to improve upon her third-place finish from 2007. Buoyed by the success of her second-place finish at the Columbia Triathlon on May 18th, Lovato arrived in West Virginia confident she could make a strong push for the podium once again.

On race morning, athletes were greeted by cool temps and overcast skies; a welcome departure from warm and muggy conditions typical of a WV summer.

Not even the world’s fastest swim skin, blueseventy’s pointZero3, could keep Amanda in contact with the swim leaders. Exiting the water over five minutes down, and in fourth place, Lovato had her work cut out for her.

As smooth as a chilly, flying-mount transition could be, Amanda adeptly made her way through T2, anxious to put the pedal to the metal on her flashy SCOTT Plasma Contessa. The sluggish feeling that characterized her swim followed her to the start of the bike leg as well. Pushing through the discomfort, Amanda found her form 20 miles into the ride, and proceeded to catch and distance her self from the swim leaders.

As cloudy skies turned to a rainy downpour, athletes everywhere were yielding to cautious riding, or paying the road-rash price. Amanda’s self-proclaimed status as Safety Sally did not prevent her from entering T2 with the fastest bike split, and the overall lead.

After the turnaround on the hilly two-loop run course, Lovato found comfort in seeing she maintained a moderate seven-minute gap to second place. Soaking up the gracious Morgantown praise, Amanda Lovato crossed the finish line in first place.

With two podium finishes thus far in 2008, Amanda turns her attention to her preparation for Subaru Ironman Canada on August 24th. Along the way, she will compete in her hometown race Boulder Peak Triathlon on July 20th

Scott signs Ironman Normann Stadler

Normann Stadler
, winner of two Ironman World Championships in Hawaii (2004 and 2006), has joined the Scott International Team. The 35 year-old top athlete and captain of team Dresdner-Kleinwort feels confident and happy about his relationship with Scott: “The new partnership and collaboration with Scott was an important move and will be a huge motivation for the upcoming season,” said Stadler.

Scott will be able to support Stadler in the best way regarding products and communication. In setting itself apart from Stadler’s existing partners, Scott stands by its main philosophy of Innovation-Technology-Design, which translates to hi-end products and a professional image.

After launching the new Plasma2 to the media two weeks ago, Scott is proud that they will see competitor Normann Stadler on the new bike in the near future. The sport’s most aerodynamic bike will work in tandem with Normann’s incredible cycling skills. Still the holder of the fastest bike split in Hawaii (recorded in 2006), he’s looking forward to going for a new record on the Plasma2 this year.

To guarantee direct power transfer to the Plasma’s pedals on the cycling portion, Scott also supports athletes with Scott bike shoes and for the last discipline in triathlon, Scott running shoes. Performance and comfort are guaranteed by Scott bike and running shoes.

At the upcoming European Championships, Ironman Frankfurt on July 6, top athlete Stadler will already be competing on Scott products. Have a look at the course and get more information about Ironman Frankfurt at http://www.ironman.de/

Robic wins RAAM on SCOTT http://www.scottusa.com/us_en/news/bike/1402/robic_wins_raam_on_scott Thu, 26 Jun 2008 12:38:33 -0600 Slovenian Jure Robic became the first man to win solo RAAM four times (Seana Hogan has won six solo women’s RAAMs). The two men who have come closest to this feat before him (with three wins each) are Rob Kish and Wolfgang Fasching. Robic denied Fasching a fourth win last year, but nobody could stop Robic from achieving it this year. His finishing time of 8 days, 23 hours and 33 minutes gave him an average speed of 13.98 mph. Andrea Rene interviewed him on the finishing stage in Annapolis, MD. When she asked him how he did it, he said, “I just sit on my bike, start pedaling, and I am here.” To read the full story, please click here.

Linsey Corbin wins New Balance Half Ironman http://www.scottusa.com/us_en/news/bike/1401/linsey_corbin_wins_new_balance_half_ironman Thu, 26 Jun 2008 11:43:25 -0600 Linsey Corbin won the New Balance Half Ironman in Victoria, Canada June 22. Here is the race report in her own words.

Congratulations Linsey!

Victoria is like Disneyland for triathletes… it has everything! I was treated to a great week on the island with swimming in Elk and Thetis lakes, cycling around town, and exploring some awesome running trails. This was the third event of the Subaru West Coast triathlon series that I have attended and race director John Bothelo has it dialed in. Besides putting on a great event, I had a great homestay with Steve Young and Vanessa Keeler. I got two great massages from Gibson Brown. I also got a brand new Subaru to drive around for the week. Lucky me!

To be honest, I wasn’t my usual self in that I wasn’t anticipating race day with much excitement. I wasn’t convinced my body was ready for a hard effort after racing Kansas 70.3 only a week earlier. Two half-ironman events back to back, could I do it?!

Once the cannon went off, I was fired up! Afew strokes into the swim,a sense of relief overcame me to be racing a no-pressure and “have-fun” event. I was quickly reminded of my amateur racing days competing alongside so many amateur athletes. The New Balance Half is very much a grassroots triathlon event where the entire Canadian triathlon community comes out to participate. It was great to be passing and cheering on athletes all day long. Racing yesterday was a good reminder of why I started to race and how much fun there is to be had. A big thank you to the triathlon community for making me feel right at home!

I exited the water with a stellar swim time of 28 minutes. Thank you, Xterra Wetsuits. Coach Lance has been telling me about all this “fitness” I was going to gain from all the racing I have been doing. I didn’t believe him until yesterday! Thanks, Lance! My legs finally felt strong on the bike and I was able to put forth a solid effort coming off the bike with a 20 minute lead. Thank you, Scott Bikes, Zipp Wheels, and FSA. The run course was great, taking us around Elk Lake twice on a great tree- lined path. Thank you Saucony for keeping me running fast and dressed to impress! The volunteers, aid stations, and crowd support were amazing. It was great to cross the line in first place with a stellar time of 4 hours, 21 minutes! Finally, thanks to Clif Bar and Base Performance for keeping me fueled and hydrated.

Two more big races to go: Lake Stevens 70.3 and Vineman 70.3; then my focus will be all about Kona!

Here’s to a good week!

Linsey Corbin

Triple Swiss Victory http://www.scottusa.com/us_en/news/bike/1399/triple_swiss_victory Mon, 23 Jun 2008 8:04:31 -0600 The Swiss Team celebrated a triple XC triumph in Val di Sole: Christoph Sauser won head and shoulders above Florian Vogel and Ralph Näf.

Florian Vogel

Due to the results so far this year, the achievement of the Swiss was not totally surprising but is probably unique.

The Swisspower Team exceeded its goals and once more it was the most successful team, earning a complete set of medals (gold for Nino, silver for Florian, bronze for Matthias and silver in the team race).  With these finishes, it’s almost certain that Vogel and Schurter will be selected to represent Switzerland in the Olympic Games.
